The students are fed up, officially.  The resistances in Greece, France, Argentina, Italy, Spain and Canada have sparked a fire that is now being felt here in New York City. Apparently the people are so upset that they will throw anything they have at those in charge. The momentum is growing behind all sorts of struggles, from gay liberation to mass transit fair hikes and the media is finally taking notice.

Here at the Campus Antiwar Network we stand in solidarity with the students of The New School  and all other resistances that have sprung up as a result of a system that continually cheats its workers and students while providing billions for the plumped bellies of few. Enough is enough. What the workers in Chicago and the students at The New School have taught us is that the only language the fat cats know how to speak is one that involves their capital and that occupation works.

With no end to war in sight and with already proposed tuition hikes and bugdet cuts – it is up to us to demand the changes we want to see in our society. Look around…

Members of the New School University occupying 65 Fifth Ave, New York, NY, USA, stand in solidarity with the people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine. We stand in direct opposition to the wars and occupations perpetrated by the U.S. government, private military contractors, and their proxy forces. As members of New School University, we actively oppose the war-profiteer, L-3 Communications, Robert B. Millard, the treasurer of our board of trustees. We demand he be removed from his position at our university and that colleges and universities across the U.S. divest from any and all war-profiteers as part of the process of ending these occupations. We demand an immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq and Afghanistan. We oppose Israel’s occupation of Palestine and demand its immediate end. We call upon colleges and universities from across the U.S. to divest from any corporation providing military equipment to Israel as well.

After the massive electoral victory of Barack Obama, students around the country are asking: “what’s next for the antiwar movement???”

Campus Antiwar Network (CAN) is coordinating a post-election national day of action on Thursday, November 13 at colleges and universities across the country calling for immediate withdrawal of all occupying troops from Afghanistan.

At City College, come join other students for an educational event on the war in Afghanistan and how we can help create a social movement to end it!

At the wake of an economic crisis and, yes, bipartisan support to escalate the occupation of Afghanistan, the need for grassroots antiwar activism has never been so apparent. This educational workshop will focus on the history of conflict in Afghanistan, debunking the myths of the U.S presence being about defeating the Taliban or “liberating” Afghan women, and more arguments students can use to explain why the U.S., now more than ever, needs to leave the Middle East.

Also featuring:

Election Project 2008–a collaborative CCNY student effort to photo-document people on the streets of NYC about the U.S. presidential election. The project’s goal is to participate in the elections in an artistic way and to create a body of work that can remind students in the future about these historic times.

   Italian Students Refuse to Pay for Government’s Crisis

Here at the City College Campus Antiwar Network in New York we are really fucking excited about what is going on primarily in Spain and Italy. Hundreds of Thousands of students, professors, and activists in general have taken to the streets in protest of the privatization of univerisites, educational budget cuts and the eradication of federal grants.

At C.A.N. (Campus Antiwar Network) we do not think its a coincidence that the ruling elite manage to spend close to a trillion dollars on brutal and senseless war while millions lose their homes, lose their jobs, are unable to pay for education, health coverage, and in many cases even food (not to mention over 1 million Iraqis who have been systemically murdered, the 5 million Iraqi refugees, and the escalation of war in Afghanistan).

Naturally, the corporate media is doing a great job at either ignoring the movement altogether, or worst, depicting the movement as an isolated group of mindless punk rockers set out to destroy the lives of ordinary people. The movement leaders of Spain and Italy have called November 13th the global day of action, the very same day that the national cordinating committee of the Campus Antiwar Network has called for national day of action protesting the escalating occupation of Afghanistan.

Ever wonder what the connection between war spending and educational budget cuts is? What do we call a system that supports the private interests of few at the expense of working people around the world? Lets talk about it. With that said, here are some videos you NEED to watch.
